Some may say that they are "just a dog" or "just a cat". But, here at The Alpine we believe different. We know and understand the pain of losing your pet. We know that pets are our best friend, family member, baby, and companion. They are here for us when we come home from a stressful day at work, during tough emotional times, and when we are at our worst. They don't judge us when we eat an entire carton of ice cream. They forgive us for any harsh words we may yell at them. Sometimes a simple tail wag or nudge of their head can bring a smile to our face. It is a wonderful experience to have a pet in our life.
The loss of a pet can bring sadness, grief, and often guilt. We want you to know that what you are feeling is completely normal. There is also NO timeline for grief. It is normal to continue feeling the sadness for days, weeks, or months. It is normal to feel like you are at peace with the loss, only to break down crying months later when you walk down the pet food isle. Some people may always feel the loss.

Gone From My Sight
I am standing upon the seashore. A ship, at my side,
spreads her white sails to the moving breeze and starts
for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength.
I stand and watch her until, at length, she hangs like a speck
of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.
Then, someone at my side says, "There, she is gone"
Gone where?
Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast,
hull and spar as she was when she left my side.
And, she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.
Her diminished size is in me -- not in her.
And, just at the moment when someone says, "There, she is gone,"
there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices
ready to take up the glad shout, "Here she comes!"
And that is dying...
